In this story you have a father that has watched his son be tormented by a spirit since he was a young boy. He takes his son to the disciples hoping they could heal him only for them to fail. Then he says to Jesus, "If You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us." Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes." Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" (Mark 9:22 - 24)
I can only imagine how many times this father had tried to get help for his son. There's no telling how many people assured him they could cure his son to no avail. I could totally relate. This story made me think about the many prophesies I received about what God was going to do in my life and how I would receive the desires of my heart. Each time my hope would increase, only to be disappointed to see another year go by without receiving my promise.
There are many of us that have received a word from the Lord that is taking time to manifest. We believe in God, but we are struggling to believe God will do what He said He will do. Like this father, we have to be honest with God and ourselves and cry out to God to help us with our unbelief. God will show you compassion. Believe me, he knows how you have suffered over the years which is enough to make even the strongest Christian doubt their faith.
Once you admit where you are, make a decision that you will not stay in that place. God would not have allowed you to receive those promises/prophecies if he didn't plan to do it, provided it was given by a true man or woman of God. True faith is holding on to a promise without seeing it. Though the wait may be long and everything around you makes you doubt the promise, hold on and dare to believe! We're entering a season where I do believe those very things God promised you a long time ago are getting ready to come to pass.
1 Peter 5:8-11 (NLT) 8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.
10 In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11 All power to him forever! Amen.
