I'm reminded of an event that took place a few years ago. I was running out and asked my dad for $5.00. He said okay, but he didn't move. I thought maybe he didn't understand what I said, so I asked him again. Once again he said okay, but this time he moved. He went inside the house and then came back out and handed me the keys to the truck. By this time I was becoming a little frustrated because he was doing everything but what I originally asked him to do. After taking the keys to the truck, I asked "where is the money?" Finally, he reached in his wallet and gave me the money.
Now, I know it was only $5, but I wanted it and I wanted it right then! LOL As I got in the truck and drove off, God gave me a revelation. He said, "this is how you are with me when you ask me for things in prayer". Somebody say ouch or amen! LOL We all have desires that we want God to fulfill, but when they don't happen in our timing we begin to wonder if He even heard us. We ask again and instead of receiving what we asked for he gives us something we need. We're happy to get what we need, but we are still focused on the fact that we haven't received what we asked for and desperately wanted in the first place. By this time we allow the enemy to convince us that God has ignored our request and could care less about our desires.
I've realized there are some things we need before we can handle what we want. What's the point of getting what you want when you don't have what you need in order to use it and enjoy it. So, take a deep breath, thank HIM and remember HE HEARD YOU THE FIRST TIME! Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with asking again, for God's word tells us in Matthew 7:7-8 Keep on asking and it will be given to you;keep on seeking and you will find;keep on knocking and the door will be opened. For everyone who keeps on asking receives;and to him who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking the door will be opened. I especially love verse 11 which says, If you then, evil as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father Who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give good and advantageous things to those who keep on asking Him! (amplified version)
It's okay to ask again, but just remember that we serve a God that wants the best for us and will give us what we need and what we want according to His will and in His perfect timing. He's a great gift giver and His gifts will exceed our expectations!
